For the people that don’t understand, this simply means, people that are anonymous. Because of the specific group I’m targeting, they can also be classified as internet trollers.
With that introduction, I want to talk about Jesy of Little Mix. Now here’s a beautiful, talented young woman who went for a music competition and came out successful with her bandmates. This is the moment she’s been dreaming of, what an exciting night right? But that was not the case. That night was the beginning of intense bullying for Jesy.
What she did wrong I do not know, who she attacked that brought her such hate, I can’t fathom, but I do know that NOBODY has the right to treat another human badly or worse, make comments about committing suicide. Like, who the hell are you? I’ll tell you who they are, cowards hiding behind anonymous, people with nothing to do and nothing to lose, they hate themselves so they don’t see any fault in hating on other people.
Even if you do everything right, look your best, lose weight, sing your lungs out, they’d still find something to hate on. And they call themselves fans, that’s the worst.
Fans support, they ride with you, they fight for you, they encourage you, they even criticize your work but it’s in the manner of delivery and you know it’s all done to bring out the best in you, which will reflect in your work. These are what fans do, not the opposite.
So back to the story, throughout the time she was in Little Mix she didn’t get a break, she decided to lose weight as it has always been something they dragged her for (I must add here that she has always looked good, not one ounce to lose in my opinion) and she did. And guess what? They still called her fat. Anyways, she quit. Left the band and said she wants to take care of herself, especially mentally, due to all the negativity she’s been receiving for the past nine years.
When I saw her post, I cried. Such a special person, with a unique voice (there is no place I’ll hear Jesy’s voice without knowing she’s the one). And they were able to break her down, all I could think of was, they’d won, their target had been achieved and I wanted to squash every single troll. I put myself in her shoes and I cried, imagine what it must have been like working alongside three other people the world termed beautiful and you the ugly one. Imagine having to cut ties with them, ending your career, probably hating yourself for not being what the world wanted, for not being beautiful enough, or talented enough that your beauty is not an issue, or even for not being strong enough to shrug it off and keep pushing, to hell what the world says and live your best life.
These internet trollers with nothing good to say, their comments are borne out of boredom, hate or pure cruise, and we pay attention to them. These ones with no genuine regard for us. Why is it that you might get a hundred positive comments but the one negative comment bugs you so much that it could cause your mood to deflate? Why do we take in their negativity? You could post a picture and it’s alright with you but the moment someone points out a flaw, we might even take down that picture no matter how beautiful it really is.
This post is simply to encourage you to try, try, try as much as possible to own yourself even if it’s an inch at a time, it’s growth, it’s an improvement. We can’t be strong all the time, it’s human nature, but we’re alive and we can start by appreciating that our lives are precious no matter how we may feel at the moment. We can be strong next time. And I know you all must have heard this a lot but it’s true, self love is everything! You’re housing so much potential, so much goodness, don’t listen to the lies, and don’t allow the dark snatch it away.
My beautiful Jesy, you are loved and you are admired. My therapist will say, every successful person wants to be loved and admired but your enemies and critics will not leave your reputation unstained and untarnished, you must rise above it. That’s my prayer for you, that you rise above it. That I hear you sing one day even while you’re healing and for more blessings to come.
Till next time folks, be brazen! 💪💋
