I had one as a child
Followed me everywhere
Wiped my tears, offered books
Cheered me on
Till it died
I’ve been in mourning ever since
The day lacks colour
Words lack meaning
I’ve called on amnesia because it’s easier to forget than remember what was
My emotions are jumbled and frightening
Do you know what it feels like to be dead inside?
The eagle went away and I haven’t been the same ever since.
