Before We Were Strangers

We were strangers before everything happened
Now we’re back to being strangers.
You were the best love I ever had. My first.
You taught me to see life in colour
You opened me up to all the spectrums of love, the highs and the lows.

My Spanish love, mi corazón
I knew we were never going to last when I cried at how happy I was because of you.
Something about that happiness didn’t feel right
I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop
And when it did, I ran with it.

All my life, it’s been said that everything good must come to an end.
It made perfect sense to me
So when you suggested our happy ending
I took it as a sign
After all, love like ours can only be experienced once in a lifetime.

If I were to describe our love, it’ll be like the perfect sunset
When the sky is tinged with pink just before the sun burns out; The calm before night takes over.
It was so easy to love you and fall into you
To keep dreaming before reality’s rude awakening
If only we could stay asleep forever
But the sun has come out to play
Now we’re back to being strangers.
