Can we talk about the sheer amount of strategy in technical writing? If I see one more strategic (…), I might just scream—literally!
I used to pour my heart out in my writing, what I call “Bleeding on Paper” in Vanessa’s world. I needed structure, some technical finesse to stop all the bleeding. So, I thought, why not Corporate Communications?
Writing is writing, right? Wrong.
I’ve never encountered so much strategy in my life!
Technical writing is no joke, but fortunately, I’m pretty serious about it. I lie awake all night thinking about it. I breathe, dream, and eat technical writing…(cries in sleepless nights).
What an interesting time in my life. The amazing thing is, it could just be a blip on my radar if I decide…am I toxic? My friends think I need help.
Have you written a grant or a proposal or some technical masterpiece? If you enjoy this, let’s be friends because I need your structured approach. I’d love to learn from you.
It reminds me of Maths.
How did you come up with that structure? Who decided what should come before what—from Cover letter to Executive Summary to Program Plan…WHY?
Do you lack joy in your life?
The hack with technical writing is you can operate from a template, but you must know what you’re doing, plus lots of research (if required).
Honestly, mi o wa interested. For my non-Yoruba speaking community, that simply means, it’s not my thing.
I don’t have the energy; it bores me to death, and for some reason, it doesn’t feel genuine because I’m only writing what you want to see. But I need the contract…and the money…and I’d rather cry to the bank than bask in flowery words.
Sigh…
Learn from me, the grass is not always greener on the other side, it just has bright lights…lots and lots of bright lights…w…e…a…r…s…h…a…d…e…s.
There are benefits, though; you improve your writing skills and become versatile in different forms. And if you’re lucky, you get to decide if it’s for life.
But for now, I’m okay with bleeding on paper. Sometimes, you need to escape all the corporate jargon.
