First Daughters

Ode to the First Daughter

Who learnt at an early age to play mother to mother, father, and siblings,
Who spent years laying foundations, hacking pathways for the ones to come,
Who never had a role model but somehow shaped her life to be someone else’s.

Ode to you, first daughters,
For unlocking parts of yourselves you shouldn’t have to,
Shouldering the burden of weaponised incompetence,
Wearing capes when you needed saving.

First daughters—

Do not let worry become a second identity.
I promise you, family can take care of itself.
It’s time to switch roles from burden bearer to free agent.
Oh, I forgot to mention—
Second Chance is on the call for you.
