Rat Race

I was searching for purpose, convinced there had to be something I was good at.

So I immersed myself in whatever was popular: work, hobbies, anything to keep busy.
Whenever I was idle, an alarm went off in my head.
I couldn’t sit still.

Don’t you see Mr A doing so and so?
Miss A just posted, they’re doing so and so…
So I had to be up and doing.
There is no rest for the weak, the docile, or the bandwagoner.

In the nick of time, you pulled me back from the brink of disaster.

They say comparison is the thief of joy, but they forget the rat race.
Aptly named for its never-ending promise of success,
and the constant loopholes that keep us trying and reaching for a promised land
by any means necessary.

The world sold us a lifestyle, and we swallowed it hook, line, and sinker.
An elaborate scam I am no longer a part of.
Because that promised land is not real, and only you determine what success means.
Your journey is not like anyone else’s. Do what’s right for you.

Happy New Month! 🎉
