The Me Before

Scared of my voice, so I lay it flat

Scared of my words, so they come out chopped

Emotions lie useless within me

Unfeeling, unfriendly, trapped

By an old age script

Of harsh existence

And battle-scarred smile

A burden it has become

This survival

Scared for my heart

Pumped once

Never again

Scared for my mind

Gasping beneath the waters
